Healing herbs can be incorporated into your magickal practice pretty easily because healing and magick work very well with each other.
Magick is fantastic for healing and when you add in the power form herbs then you get extremely effective results.
In this post, I am going to talk about herbs you can use in your magickal practice to heal yourself and others or prevent yourself from getting sick. You can also speed up recovery if you’re working with someone who is already sick.
Healing magick is a combination of your personal power and the power of the herbs being directed towards a specific intention.
There are some forms of healing magick that can get a little complicated but there are also spells that are really simple and can be learned and used by anyone even if you aren’t a witch or Wiccan.
A short disclaimer, magick is not a substitute for medical attention. If you have a serious illness you need to see a doctor. The healing herbs and processes I’m going to be talking about in this post will work best for non-serious ailments like headaches and colds.
In my free e-book Herbal Magick for Beginners, I talk extensively about magick so make sure you download it. I want you all to remember the magick is not instantaneous. It’s going to take some time for you to see the results you want and you may even have to perform a spell more than once and that’s okay!

A History of Healing Herbs
Our ancestors, the first humans, believed that sickness was because of evil spirits that had entered the body. Let’s be honest, viruses are definitely evil. So in order to get the evil spirits out of the person, you had to purify them and they would get better.
Wiccans and witches, most of us anyway, believe that sickness and disease were caused by a physical or spiritual imbalance. If you are not taking care of your body or doing any type of drugs then you are leaving yourself open to disease. Going out into the world nowadays exposes your body to disease but taking care of your body generally helps keep it strong enough to fight it.
How many times have you gotten sick and turned to Google to find natural remedies to cure yourself?
This is because the natural remedies normally work better than anything you can buy from a store or a pharmacy.
Thankfully these remedies and rituals are fairly easy to do and they can relieve pain and cure you given the proper circumstances. In order to cure yourself with herbal magick, you must have a positive outlook and allow the magick to do its job.
Whenever are doing a healing spell or making a healing charm for yourself or someone else you want to visualize them or yourself completely healed and free of disease while you’re making it or performing the spell. Visualization is the bread and butter of magick and it’s a skill you will get better at. Be aware of your thoughts during magick, they matter.
When you are preparing to do healing magick you want to figure out what exactly you’re trying to heal because if you don’t know if it’s the flu or a stomach virus it’s hard to figure out what spell to do.
Once you know what the problem is you have to figure out the timing of the spell. I talk about the timing of magick in my e-book Herbal Magick for Beginners, but generally, you want to perform healing spells during the waxing moon.
Blue candles are best when performing healing spells. You can burn these during your meditation, while you’re making the charm or amulet or make it the focal point of your spell.
Healing amulet or charm
Making a healing amulet is fairly simple, all you need is a clove of garlic, peeled, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of saffron, a pinch of sage and a pinch of eucalyptus.
Using blue fabric, sew all the ingredients up into a nice pouch and carry it around with you until your sickness is gone!
This amulet works pretty well for general sicknesses but if you want you can add rosemary to the pouch if you’re trying to get rid of a headache.
While you are preparing the amulet focus on your intention. Imagine yourself completely healthy and hold that visualization until you can’t hold it anymore.
If you’re making it for someone else make sure they get it as soon as possible but if you’re storing it for use later then keep it in a safe place away from direct sunlight.
Before we had ibuprofen and Advil, our ancestors had onions.
Onions have the power to absorb sickness and keep it from spreading.
Rubbing an onion on the area of your body that needs to be healed will absorb the disease but be careful when having onion close to your eyes or smelling it because that could cause tears.
Garlic is a healing herb as well but it differs from onions because instead of absorbing the sickness it just keeps it away instead.
In many spells, garlic and onions can be used interchangeably, it really depends on which one you prefer to use in your practice.
I don’t know about you but I get really awful migraines sometimes and over the counter medication just doesn’t cut it most of the time.
If you add some mugwort leaves to your pillowcase this will help alleviate the pain and hopefully keep the migraines or headaches away.
Remember the preparation of the herb, washing, drying and storing, is just as important as the creation of your remedy or amulet.
A headache healing amulet can be made with lavender, mugwort, peppermint, clove, and Mandrake. Sew it up in a blue pouch and carry it with you until your symptoms go away
Another cure for headaches is wrapping a cucumber peel around your head since cucumbers have a cooling effect.
This is probably the sickness that everyone what’s a magickal remedy for and I’m happy to say there are plenty.
However, the best remedy for a cold is to prevent yourself from getting sick in the first place so during cold season create a eucalyptus sachet and carry it with you.
Also, eucalyptus oil is great for keeping the common cold away. Apply it daily to your throat, forehead, chest, and wrists.
One last remedy I got from my grandmother, eating an onion a day. It isn’t the most pleasant solution but it is something to keep on standby for desperate times.
Herbal healing magick is pretty simple and can easily be incorporated into your magick practice. Keep in mind if you would like to use your magick to heal someone else you must get that person’s permission first and make them aware you will be using for magick to heal them.
Remember healing using herbal magick isn’t reserved for Wiccans or witches, we all have magick inside of use, it’s just a matter of tapping into it.
Well, that’s all for this post!
